The Timelines

The launch of the iCloud services is only delayed till both the Apple and the publishers settle on the monetary part. However that may still take some time before Apple rolls out its new service to the customers. Company believes that it will be able to introduce the service for its Developers centre somewhere by July 2011. However users will be able to enjoy it only when both the publishers and Apple come on the same page with latter bringing the former on board.

Reports are surfacing from one of Apple’s suppliers of iPhone manufacturing equipment that expected orders are “several months later than usual” – which could be pointing to a September launch for the new iPhone handset. Analysts have been predicting for months that Apple’s fifth-generation iPhone handset would be set to launch in September 2011, as opposed to the usual June-July 2011 time frame. Is this really true? New iPhone App: International Clothes and Shoes Measurements Converter

CINQ Technologies launches a new application for Apple that helps travelers convert clothing and shoes size among five regions including USA, UK, Europe, Japan and Brazil. The application is available in English and in Portuguese and lets the user save the size of favorite contacts according to their country of origin for each piece of clothing, thus facilitating future reference. An unlimited number of contacts can be stored in the app showing the clothing sizes for different items for each person which can be easily converted between the five measurement systems.

NYC Kid Converts Black iPhone 4 to White

Fruity peddler of broken iPhones, Apple is leaning on a kid for doing what it can’t manage – making a white iPhone 4. Apple has been putting off making a white iPhone 4 until next March because it claims that it is pretty tricky. This has apparently opened the market for those who think it is a doddle, like this kid from New York City.

It is such an easy task that Fei “Phil” Lam, 17, from New York, has been cashing in by flogging a converter kit that turns black iPhone 4s into white ones. Apple’s response has been to send the boys around. According to the Sydney Morning Herald Lam claims that Jobs’ Mob had sent around a private dick to try and gag him from selling the kits. He also claims he had Apple shut down his eBay listings too.

So far he has made about $30,000 to $40,000 from the kits which cost up to $279 each. What is doubly embarrassing for Apple is that the kits use parts supplied by the suicide plagued Foxconn, which makes the iPhone in China. The question is then, if Lam can make a White iPhone using kit from Apple’s own supplier, why can’t Apple?

The answer might be in the price tag. Lam said it costs him a lot to bring the components for the kits into the country and he does not have a high mark up. It might be that it is too expensive for Jobs’ Mob to get its traditional high mark-up for a white case. It might be that Apple does not have to take too much action against Lam – after he has made a bit of dosh he plans to go to college. Lam says he is an Apple fanboy, but admits he does not own an iPhone. Apparently, despite all the cash he has made he does not think he can afford one. This is how someone ends up being a billionaire before they are 20.

Chat interview with Fei “Phil” Lam

SMH: Okay. First up, great idea. How did you come up with this?

Phil Lam: Thanks. It just sort of came to me.

SMH: Have you always been an Apple/iPhone fan?

Phil Lam: [I] saw that the parts were available and [that the] official release [had been] delayed. [I'm] a huge Apple fanboy here.

SMH: So you were disappointed when the white iPhone release was delayed?

Phil Lam: I don’t own an iPhone though.

SMH: You don’t own an iPhone because you couldn’t afford one, as a student? Is that right?

Phil Lam: That too.

SMH: Ok. Tell me about the private investigator. Why do you think he’s working for Apple?

Phil Lam: He works for a anti-counterfeit/trademark firm … [using] the same [methods] used to bring down eBay listings by Apple. Of course I hope it’s not Apple.

SMH: So the parts are quite expensive, like over $200 for the front and back. It’s only a shell, why is it so costly?

Phil Lam: It’s not too far from how much I get them even at bulk.

SMH: I’ve read you’ve made over $100K in just a couple of weeks, is that correct? Any buyers from Australia?

Phil Lam: That number is bull. I made only 30-40k. [The] 100k was income before cost of [the] product. Every time a site picks up the story it changes a little bit.

SMH: That’s why I wanted to ask you and get the truth.

SMH: Just to check a few other things: you are 17? What are you making the money for? I read to fund college. And is that fuzzy photo of you really you?

Phil Lam: I did not expect to get so much attention.

SMH: Yea, I was going to say. You must be surprised and excited about how quickly this story has spread. Your 15 minutes of fame? Or do you intend to make it last a bit longer?

SMH: By that I mean are you an entrepreneurial kind of guy, or just a typical teenager. Are you the next Mark Zuckerberg?

Phil Lam:To answer your previous question, I’m turning 18 in half a month.

SMH: And the question about your entrepreneurial instincts?

Phil Lam: I intend to go to college for at least 1-2 years.

SMH: To study computer science, I’ve read. Is that correct?

Phil Lam: To be honest, I am starting a stealthy start up. Or business.

SMH: OK. So you are an entrepreneurial guy. No hints at what the start up is about?

Phil Lam: I’ve told a bit to Fast Company and basically it’s a super simplistic way to connect with another person online. I know it’s a bit vague.

SMH: That sounds like social.

Phil Lam: But I’ll have it launched pretty soon, before the year ends.

Will Apple iPad Win the Technology Race?

We all are aware of the hype that is created by Apple before and soon after the release of their new touch screen tablet named iPad. This little piece of technology has a stunning look which has the power to mesmerize even the best technology critics and writers, but in the world of technology nothing is constant and therefore there are many new companies and manufacturers that are now launching their own tablet computers that would have some features that Apple iPad is missing which would give them a chance to race ahead of this giant innovator.

There is no doubt that Apple iPad will stay in the technology market for a long time because it has some of the best features like a bigger touch screen and a higher resolution that provides soothing effect to our eyes. Since iPad is just the size of a magazine the users can use iPad like a book to read their favorite eBooks and also to write down something important even when they are walking or standing in a queue. Apple iPad has 3G support to it for faster internet access along with Wi-Fi accessibility options.

However, Apple iPad has many shortcomings like it cannot handle multi-tasking and does not have USB port, SD card slot and even does not have customized hardware options for its users. The competitors of Apple iPad are now looking forward to get ahead of Apple iPad by coming up with newer designs and features that would help the users to perform all the activities that they cannot do with Apple iPad. Though, Apple is already working on the next model of iPad where these mistakes will be rectified but the other manufacturers will definitely launch their touch screen tablet computers much before the second edition of Apple iPad to ensure that they are well ahead in the race.

Should Students Buy Apple iPad?

We all know that Apple iPad is one state of the art gadget that is targeted for business class people but apart from business class people there are many other people who are equally interested in getting their hands of this sleek tablet computer. Students are more attracted towards the latest technology and therefore you cannot keep Apple iPad away from kids going to schools and colleges, but the questions is that should they go ahead and buy an Apple iPad?

Apple iPad has many features that would work for students as well like it is very lightweight and portable which means that students do not have to carry books for references. They can use eBooks because Apple iPad has a big high resolution screen that makes reading a pleasure. You can even write on iPad so it works as all in one tool that is so light that it might adjust itself in any backpack. The battery life of Apple iPad is for around 10 hours which is clearly a good point for student. The touch screen is big and iPad does not create any humming noise while it is functioning and therefore Apple iPad does have some features that would benefit the students.

However, students might have to slow down their work because Apple iPad struggles when it comes to multi-tasking. It would create a problem if the student has to take down notes quickly and if iPad does not allow the student to work efficiently. Another thing that students might not be happy with is the lack of keyboard. Though, iPad has an onscreen keyboard it might not be as useful as the real keyboard. Apple iPad lacks USB port and SD card slot which means students will not be able to share data quickly among themselves and this would go against Apple iPad.

Recently, we have presented you sketches on iPad by Lawrence Yang. Now, let’s us see how a Japanese artist playing with the iPad. To begin with, Yoshitoshi Abe is a popular graphic artist, cartoonist and illustrator in Japan. His first gained reputation in his work on the avant-garde anime Serial Experiments Lain. He is also the creator of the doujinshi Haibane Renmei, which was then adapted into an anime. Recently, he got his first Apple iPad and really excited to try his drawing talents on the iPad. Following are his amazing demonstration on scribbling anime character (Ain) on iPad, taken from Gigazine Japan. The work was very fast (within 4 minutes) and the result was truly amazing.

Apple iPhone 4G Prototype and Specs

The world of technology is fast moving and therefore equipment manufacturers and technology developers always have to think way ahead of the times to come out with products that are truly innovative and can help us communicate better in the future. Among the top companies that have a reputation of coming up with products that are truly world class is Apple. After the success of Apple iPhone 3G, Apple is now coming up with their new mobile phone Apple iPhone 4G which will change the way we communicate and handle our applications in mobile phones.

So far Apple has tried not to reveal much information about their latest mobile phone that will soon launched into the world market, but they have gone ahead and provided some information about their prototype and that would be made up of titanium and glass. The Apple iPhone 4G will have an OLED screen and a front camera which will be helpful for iChat because the users can use that camera as a webcam while they are on a chat with the other person. The phone will also have a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto flash for better pictures and videos.

To make the iPhone 4G better than the previous versions of iPhone, Apple has worked on the clarity of the screen and therefore you will find that the resolution of Apple iPhone 4G will be much higher than any other Apple iPhone model. There is a secondary mic at the top next to the headphone jack which can be used as a noise cancellation tool. It has split buttons for increasing and decreasing volumes. The buttons are all metallic and the back is absolutely flat with shiny plastic or ceramic. Apple iPhone comes with 3G services and other features that will definitely make iPhone 4G the mobile phone of the future.
