Billionaire adventurer Richard Branson may have large-scale plans for deep sea exploration, but a new ocean discovery makes big waves on a microscopic level. A team of science researchers trawling the ocean floor have just published their findings of the world’s new largest virus, found lurking off the coast of Las Cruces, Chile. It’s so big, it’s actual scientific name is Megavirus chilensis — and you can even view it with a basic light microscope. The previous virus record holder was Mimivirus, which boasted the largest diameter of any virus …

Do you always think about whether the Earth pole will shift in 2012? Well, there are many science people who are asking this question. Various geologists and space experts believe and have taken geological samples that support the theory that there are high chances of Earth pole switching from north to south and vice versa. This can happen when the lava inside the Earth’s core comes up on the crust and then cools down. Since lava has magnetic properties it will definitely bring changes to Earth’s climate and soon the …

The Sambas Stream Toad, or Borneo Rainbow Toad, was found by a team of scientists after months of scouring remote forest in Sarawak state on Borneo island, Conservation International (CI) said in a release. The endangered toad was last seen in 1924 and was previously known from only three individuals.…

This is such a good news to those who reside tropical countries. Scientists announced that the dengue vaccine could be ready in 2015 in their press release entitled, “Dengue vaccine could be ready by 2015“. I wonder if we can wait that long. Malaysia has done something to mutate the mosquito (LINK) but no progress heard from them since then. I think some Japanese also come up with an idea on how to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs (LINK). Anyway, I really hope this …

My condolences to the people in Fukushima/Sendai/Tokyo city. May they are strong to move forward. I never thought that powerful earthquake followed by ferocious tsunami could wipe out the cities. It was totally catastrophic! While browsing an Internet, I stumbled upon this piece of information (could be a conspiracy theory) whereby somebody had already “predicted” the disaster a few hours before the earthquake and tsunami. …

Malaysia released about 6,000 genetically modified mosquitoes into a forest in the first experiment of its kind in Asia aimed at curbing dengue fever, officials said Wednesday. The field test is meant to pave the way for the use of genetically engineered Aedes aegypti male mosquitoes to mate with females and produce no offspring or ones with shorter lives, thus curtailing the mosquito population. Only female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes spread dengue fever, which killed 134 people in Malaysia last year.…

A new dinosaur species, whose weight was similar to a parrot’s and had only one digit, has been discovered. Scientists view the rare solitary digit as evidence that the evolution of dinosaurs was more complex than they first believed. The dinosaur’s fossilised remains were found in rocks formed from 84 million to 75 million years ago in Linhe, a city near the Yellow River in China.…

Humans have always known sun for its scorching heat but researchers and technology gurus are now changing the way we look at sun. Research scientists in Tunisia and Morocco are now working on a new innovative refrigerator that would use sun’s scorching heat and light and convert it to cool large factories that are involved in food packaging and frozen foods. As per the reports and surveys done by various industrial organizations it has been found that large industries and factories consume a lot of electrical power to keep their …
