NSAIDS Alternative Method: Palm-based Transdermal Nano-emulsions

12 October 2009 2 Comments

More amazing research findings are being made in research centers of the Malaysia’s local universities. The PECIPTA 09 exhibition, which had been held from 8-10 October 2009, uncovers these new findings, which contribute towards a more progressive society. Among many spectacular research presented, a team led by Prof Dr Mahiran Basri on “Design and Development of palm-based transdermal nanoemulsions for Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS)” suggested that patients taking long term NSAIDS medications suffered serious gastrointestinal (GI).

Topical palm-based nanoemulsions system was designed and developed to deliver the NSAIDS. There were many challenges when incorporating NSAIDS into current formulations. This increased the shelf life of modified NSAIDS nanoemulsions to more than three years with suitable rheology for topical application. They also showed higher percentage release of NSAIDS than creams or gels in the market. For more details on PECIPTA 09, please visit For more details on PECIPTA 09, please visit PECIPTA 2009.
