SanDisk 64GB Cards on the Way!
Sandisk said it will begin mass producing Flash memory cards with an unprecedented 64GB of storage capacity. Northern California-based SanDisk developed the high-performance card in collaboration with Japanese electronics titan Toshiba using 43nm process technology.
In what the firm described as a breakthrough, cells in the X3 cards hold two to four times the amount of data as is typical in the industry. SanDisk is the world’s largest supplier of Flash storage cards and plans to bring X3 cards to market by mid-year. A premium memory card currently available from SanDisk can hold 32GB of data while 16GB cards are a mainstay of its line.
“The microSD form factor has grown in popularity due to rising demand for high capacity storage on mobile phones, and X3 will enable us to bring us exciting new products to this market,” said SanDisk executive vice president Yoram Cedar.

how much?
as v r getting good data storage spaces the sizes of the softwares is increasing alongwith…..:)
@abdullah it is indeed. Well, in fact I don’t kanow what I will do with big storage like that.
@Benny I dont know as they are just announcing the release, not the price. Mass production will come up later I think.
64 GB is not all that much. The price will go down faster than a “value priced lady of questionable virtue”. But the big news is that SSDs are the future.
We already see SSDs of 256 GB and it won’t be long before they are in the TB range. Eliminating HDD will cut down energy consumption and heat generation. In addition, they will over-all be faster. Currently, they lag a bit on write speed, but the write operations are generally done in the background so that isn’t noticeable.
Technology marches on!
